THE HOLY SPIRIT

16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

19 Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.

20 At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.

21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

22 Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?

23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.

25 These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.

26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

 John 14: 16 – 26

Introduction: This series will focus on the Holy Spirit. The more we know about the Holy Spirit, the better our Christian experience will be.

A. Who is the Holy Spirit

1. The Holy Spirit is a person: In Genesis 1:26, the Bible says "And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. (Genesis 1:26 KJV)
The verse of scripture tells us that there are more than one person in the conversation. These are God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. These are one God but different personalities. In the Old Testament, God revealed Himself as God the Father. He came into the world as God the Son in the person of Jesus and before Jesus left the earth He told us that after He ascended into heaven, God the Holy Spirit will come into the world. This is found in John 14:16 "And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever.

2. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth: in John 14:17 the Bible says "Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. The Holy Spirit reveals the truth about God and His Kingdom to us

3. The Holy Spirit is our Comforter: God comes to comfort us through God the Holy Spirit. Life is full of challenges but our God has promised us that He will always be with us in our troubles. Verse 18 "I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

4. The Holy Spirit is a Teacher: Apart from being our Comforter in the time of trouble, the Holy Spirit is also a Teacher. John 14:26 says "But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you". As God's children, we need to understand that the best Teacher we can ever have is the Holy Spirit. He can teach both natural and spiritual things and with Him we can never go wrong.
