" And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit ; Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and Spiritual songs, singing and MAKING MELODY IN YOUR HEART TO THE LORD." Ephesians 5: 18- 19.
MELODY means here tune in other to praise God. It can be in psalms, hymns and Spiritual songs. We have a tune when we pray, this tune here is a rejoicing tune. Not to ask God for anything but just to worship him for who he is.
Notice that word ' MELODY IN YOUR HEART TO THE LORD'. This Melody is not just in singing or praising with your mouth as other do. You do it with your HEART in honour to the Lord.If your heart is not involved in your singing psalms, hymns and singing song, it is voice training and another way is noise making.
If your heart is agreeing with the spiritual songs, hymns, and psalms, you are not just singing, you are also making melody unto the Lord.
David is a good example of someone who make melody in his heart unto the Lord in several occasions. One among all is when he finally bring the ark of God to the city of David. After he brought it to the city, he make melody unto the Lord.
" So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet. And as the ark of the LORD came into the City of David, Michal Saul's daughter looked through a window, and she despised him in her heart. And they brought in the ark of the Lord and set it in his place, in the midst of the tabernacle that David had pitched for it: and David offered burnt offerings and peace offering before the Lord." 2 Samuel 6: 15- 18.
And among all the king, David is the only one that really understand making melody unto the Lord and he is favoured above all kings. ( Read the book of 1 Samuel 17 to 1 king).
So don't just pray, sing and make melody in your heart to the Lord.
